Qarandzav is a unique tavern-restaurant located inside a natural cave on the road to Noravank. It’s a cosy little nook decorated in Armenian traditional rural style. The atmosphere is very friendly and natural: stone and wooden interior, walls and ceiling in their raw, authentic state. The dishes we offer are from the Armenian traditional cuisine, all made of fresh natural food.

My name is Vardges Gharakhanyan and I’m the Ranger of Areni district of Arpa Environmental Foundation's Arpa Protected Landscape, a collaborator with the World Wide Fund for Nature Armenia (WWF-Armenia) and the Red Book of Endangered Species. Also, I’m an active supporter of ecotourism and ethnic tourism, as well as a devotee to nature protection, in particular in the gorge leading to the Noravank Monastery. Looking forward to seeing you in the Qarandzav Tavern & Guest House.

WHERE TO STAY

We offer you a Bed & Breakfast type guest house not far from Qarandzav Tavern, in the nearby Areni Village, with a living room, a guest bedroom with private bathroom, a kitchen and a spacious dining room.

WHAT TO SEE

Noravank is a 13th-century Armenian monastery, located 122 km from Yerevan, in the narrow gorge of the Amaghu River, near the city of Yeghegnadzor. The gorge is surrounded with tall, brick-red cliffs. The monastery is best known for its two-storey Surb Astvatsatsin church, which grants access to the second floor via a narrow stone staircase on the building’s façade.

WHAT TO DO

Enjoy your rest in the beautiful old-fashion atmosphere created in Qarandzav Tavern with its hand-woven rugs, wine jugs, clay pottery. Witness the process of baking “lavash” in the adjacent “tonir”, the oven dug in the ground.

Finally, taste the freshly made Armenian dishes while drinking the famous Areni wine.
